How I Met
Your Mother
Where it began
Two little ones, born 150 km apart: one in Bengaluru, one in Mysuru.
The housewarming
Our parents were old friends. Her family came to our housewarming.
She made it into the photo. I didn't. We didn't know it yet.
Across the street
That summer holiday, I went for coaching at my PU college every day. Right across the road, she was spending her holidays at her ajji's house.
One road apart, all summer. We didn't know it yet.
At the mela
Our parents both had stalls at the farmers' melas in Mysuru. My mom sold her bottle-gourd lampshades; her dad sold mangoes and Rajmudi rice. Some days we both came along.
Same mela, a few stalls apart. Both too busy selling to look up.
The wingman
Years later, at one of those melas, my mom gifted her a necklace she had made. She gave my mom a hug, and that was it: Amma was fidaa. She turned wingman and shared her number with me.
Best wingman I ever had: Amma.
The first date
Our first date: dinner at Pump House in Bengaluru, then the Bull Temple in Basavanagudi.
After all those years and kilometres, finally 0 m apart.
Meeting the families
Then came the big meetings: her with my parents, me with hers, and finally all of us together. It was official. We celebrated by planting a sapling in loving memory of Lakshmi, her beloved cow: a new beginning that will keep growing with us.
Two families, one.
All the little moments
My birthday, Church Street evenings, bike rides, a trip to Adiyogi, Valentine's dinner, our first visit to Unnenahalli, Aishu's housewarming, and plenty of date nights.
Ordinary days became our favourite ones.
Will you marry me?
I tricked her into a trip to Madikeri on the pretext of a birthday getaway. Early the next morning, by a quiet lake, I got down on one knee. She had no clue.
She said yes!
